Department of English
The Department of English was established with the inception of O. N. S. Government Degree College in 1984 as Devprayag College. The department teaches undergraduate students of B A programme literature written in English in Britain, America, India as well as new literatures in English with special emphasis on Women’s Writings, Partition literature and regional literature of Uttarakhand. In addition, English language is also taught as a Vocational and Minor Elective paper to students from other disciplines as well.
Every year the department conducts activities like essay writing, story writing, vocabulary tests, elocution etc. to strengthen student’s ability to write and speak English consciously.
Why study English literature?
The study of literature develops skills of analysis, interpretation and self expression in students. It gives them a chance to improve their writing skills, speaking skills, reading skills as well as critical thinking skills.
