Omkaranand Saraswati Government Degree College, Devprayag is situated below the Badrinath National Highway (NH-58) at a distance of 1.5 Km on the bank of river Alaknanda at Devprayag, which is among the five prayagas of Uttarakhand. The college is located at an altitude of about 580 meters above sea level at the grassland named as Laun Ka Sain.

The foundation of Omkaranand Saraswati Government Degree College, Devprayag was laid by the Devprayag College Management Committee as ‘Devprayag College’ in 1984-85. The first session of the college commenced in the same year. Under the dynamic leadership and inspiration of Late Acharya Chakradhar Joshi Ji, the college was incepted with six subjects (Sanskrit, Hindi, English, Economics, History and Political Science) in the building constructed under the aegis of renowned Mumbai-based corporate Seth Naveen Chandra Mafatlal Group.

In January 1986, the financial liabilities of the college were handed over to ‘Omkaranand Ashram Trust’, Durga Mandir, Muni-Ki-Reti, Rishikesh. ShriVishweshwaranand Maharaj, the then Chairman of the Trust readily agreed to bear the expenses in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the college. Since the funding was being done by the aforesaid trust, therefore the college was re-named as ‘Omkaranand Saraswati College, Devprayag’ in the same year.

In the year 1989, the college received provisional affiliation from HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar, Garhwal. The college was also given provisional recognition as the Annual Exam Centre. Prior to it, the students had to go to Srinagar, Garhwal for appearing in the examination. Later on, the college got permanent recognition for the aforesaid 06 subjects.

After running the college successfully for 18 years, the Trust was unable to run it owing to its other financial liabilities. Therefore, on 16th August, 2001 it was taken over by the State Government. Subsequently, in 2005, the college was granted 2F and 12B status as per the UGC norms. Science stream and M.A. (Hindi) classes were started in college in 2017. The college that started with a mere strength of 25 students has ever since been making progress by leaps and bounds.

Since academic session 2018-19, the college is affiliated to Sridev Suman University, Badsahithaul (TehriGarhwal) and two new post graduate programmes in Economics and Political Science were introduced in 2022.
